
From War Plan Orange to ballistic missile defence, Rowan has an extensive background in U.S. policy research. His latest publication, War Plan Taiwan: OPLAN 5077 and the U.S. Struggle for the Pacific, examines Washington’s most pressing current defence dilemma.

Rowan has a deep background in the study of NATO’s approach to defence. His monograph Fire and Ice: a New Maritime Strategy for NATO’s Northern Flank was recognised by NATO Maritime Command as being a major contribution towards the debate over redeveloping the alliance’s maritime strategy.

With over a decade of leadership experience at the Human Security Centre, a London-based foreign policy think tank, Rowan has broad experience in advancing the dialogue on security beyond the nation-state level and towards individuals, emphasising their well-being from threats to their survival, livelihoods, and dignity.

Dr Rowan Allport is a Deputy Director at the Human Security Centre. Rowan holds a PhD in Politics and a MA in Conflict, Governance and Development from the University of York, as well as a BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Hull. Specialising in strategic analysis and international security, Rowan's primary areas of interest lie in the defence issues in and around the NATO region, interstate conflict and US foreign policy discourse. He has previously worked as a lobbyist for Whitehouse Communications in Westminster, and as a Senior Analyst for RAND Europe's Security, Defence and Infrastructure team.
